Avila's proposed loan to Atlas falls apart

Eric Avila - August 28, 2010

FRISCO, Texas — Eric Avila returned to FC Dallas training on Wednesday after a proposed loan deal to CF Atlas fell through.

The 23-year-old midfielder was in Guadalajara, Mexico, over the weekend with the intent of coming to terms on a six-month loan deal with the Mexican side, but according to FC Dallas head coach Schellas Hyndman, the arrangements fell apart.

“I’m not aware of all the circumstances, but I don’t think every ‘i’ was dotted and every ‘t’ was crossed, so he’s back,” said Hyndman after training. “And just from my point of view, a breakdown in communication.”

When asked if he would be returning to Guadalajara — where his parents and family members are from — Avila was mum.

“There will be a statement later on,” the San Diego native said. “I’m not going to comment on that right now but it should be later on today or tomorrow, but a statement will be available through the club.”

Avila added that the trip was a great experience and that he’d always wanted to play in Mexico because of the different style of play and proximity to his family and friends.

The fourth-year player out of UC Santa Barbara also revealed that talks between FC Dallas and Atlas had been taking place for some time.

“It was going down for awhile,” he said. “It was just talks back and forth, but it was just to see what was going on.”
