AMSTERDAM — Hoffenheim attack apprentice Joseph Gyau will be helping to fill the numbers at first-team training until the reserves begin preseason camp at the top of the month.

Though he is not being fully promoted from Hoffenheim II, the American is one of just three players plucked from the second squad to pitch in for manager Marco Pezzaiuoli before their sessions begin on July 1.

"He's still playing with the Under-23 team," Hoffenheim press officer Marcel Kamm told MLSsoccer.com. "He will be up training with the first team on Wednesday, though. A lot of our players are still away with international teams."

While Gyau won't be setting up his locker at Rhein-Neckar-Arena just yet, the Hoffenheim staff is quite high on the 18-year-old winger.

"He's a really good player," said Kamm. "His development has been very positive the last couple of months — but he's not ready yet."

Gyau made his Hoffenheim II debut at the end of February, eventually ending the season with two starts in seven appearances.
