Goal of the Matchday

Alexandre's drive takes AT&T Goal of the Week honors

Jean Alexandre celebrates his first career goal

It’s been a week of firsts for Real Salt Lake’s Jean Alexandre. First, his goal and assist against Vancouver earned him his first MLS Player of the Week award. Then, for good measure, the midfielder-turned-striker took home the AT&T Goal of the Week for Week 12.

In the 31st minute at Rio Tinto Stadium last Saturday, Alexandre took a pass from RSL captain Kyle Beckerman near the top of the 18-yard box, dribbled through Vancouver defenders Bilal Duckett and Mouloud Akloul, and fired the ball low past Joe Cannon to put Salt Lake on the board in an eventual 2-0 win.

“Golazo!” said teammate Fabián Espíndola of the strike. “Unbelievable. “It was like Cristiano Ronaldo.”

The Haitian international’s goal earned 37 percent of the fan vote, just ahead of Danny Mwanga’s equalizer for Philadelphia in a 1-1 draw at Colorado, which garnered 28 percent.
