American Exports: Edu, Rangers on brink of three-peat

Maurice Edu and Rangers closed in on the SPL title with a win vs. Hearts.

AMSTERDAM — Maurice Edu worked a splendid full shift on Tuesday as Rangers moved to the brink of a Scottish Premier League three-peat by topping Dundee United 2-0 at Ibrox.

The US midfielder pitched in with an influential two-way game as the Blues moved four points clear of title rivals Celtic in their penultimate match of the season.

Rangers will now head into closing day with no worse than a one-point edge on their archrivals and could celebrate the crown as early Wednesday night if the Hoops lose at Hearts.

Over in Ligue 1, Carlos Bocanegra and Saint-Étienne surrendered all hope of a Europa League berth by blowing an early lead to fall 2-1 to visiting table-toppers Lille.
