The University of Michigan men’s soccer program confirmed Tuesday that Big Ten Freshman of the Year Soony Saad has departed school in hopes of beginning his professional career.

"Soony feels that now is the right time for him to pursue his lifelong dream of playing professionally overseas," Michigan head coach Steve Burns said in a statement. "We wish him the best in all of his future endeavors."

Saad scored 19 goals last year and was named to the All-America Second Team by the NSCAA. He played an important role in Michigan’s run to the College Cup and debuted for Thomas Rongen's US U-20s in December.

He was named Gatorade Player of the Year for his senior high school campaign.

Reports last week suggested he is in Europe setting up trials with Bayern Munich, Anderlecht, SC Freiburg and 1860 Munich.
