American Exports: Jones wins in Blackburn debut

Jermaine Jones

AMSTERDAM – Jermaine Jones made a solid 90-minute debut in Blackburn's 2-0 win over West Bromwich Albion, highlighting Sunday's action for Americans in Europe.

The US midfielder was, however, very fortunate not to concede a penalty kick midway through the second half. Despite the referee spotting the foul outside the area, replays indicated that Jones actually tripped up Peter Odemwingie inside it.

In the Bundesliga, Michael Bradley worked a mop-up five minutes as Borussia Mönchengladbach fell 3-1 to rude derby guests Bayer Leverkusen.

In the Eredivisie, Oguchi Onyewu ably held down left back for a second straight game as second-place FC Twente posted a 2-1 win at Groningen.

In La Liga action, Jozy Altidore went unused as Villarreal topped Real Sociedad 2-1 thanks to a pair of goals from New Jersey native Giuseppe Rossi.

Over in Belgium, Sacha Kljestan watched from the dugout as Anderlecht maintained their six-point tabletop edge with a 2-0 win over visiting rivals Standard Liège.
