American Exports: Dempsey & Co. draw Villa

Clint Dempsey

AMSTERDAM – It was another busy Saturday for Americans in Europe on Saturday, with Clint Dempsey and Fulham rallying at the death for a 1-1 draw with Brad Friedel's visiting Aston Villa.

Friedel was at his best to stonewall Dempsey before halftime and Andy Johnson after, but eventually fell victim to Houston-born Cottager Brede Hangeland's equalizing free-kick header deep into stoppage time.

Elsewhere in the Premier League, Stuart Holden went the distance as Bolton climbed tentatively into fifth place with a 4-2 defeat of Tottenham.

Everton fought back twice and netminder Tim Howard made a big late stop to preserve a 2-2 draw at Blackpool.

Marcus Hahnemann and Wolverhampton nearly escaped Old Trafford with point, but would suffer at the death as Manchester United left it very late for a 2-1 win.

Over in Germany's Bundesliga, Michael Bradley put in a full shift as Borussia Mönchengladbach slugged it out with guests Bayern Munich in a 3-3 draw.

However, Ricardo Clark was an unused sub as Eintracht Frankfurt climbed to third with a 3-1 victory over Wolfsburg.

Finally, Tom Tomsk forward Evgeny Starikov worked the opening hour of a 1-0 loss at Anzhi Makhachkala.
