The Kansas City Wizards began 2007 spring training sessions at the Arrowhead indoor facility on Saturday. With a new coaching staff, rested veteran players and young draft picks at camp, the atmosphere at practice was one filled with anticipation and excitement for the upcoming season. Today, one of the main goals of practice was to evaluate the players' overall fitness levels.

"I was extremely pleased with the fitness levels of the players," Kansas City Wizards Head Coach Curt Onalfo said. "The players arrived excited for the preseason and played sharp throughout the day. Our recent draft picks also did well and all the players' attitudes were great."

The Wizards have plenty of time before their first match of the regular season, but players are focused on sharpening their skills at each day's practice.

"As the preseason progresses, the guys will start playing and thinking faster, but I thought they played well with each possession today," Kansas City Wizards Assistant Coach Chris Henderson said. "They really worked hard and put in a lot of effort."

The team will continue preseason training in Kansas City throughout the next week. The Wizards will leave for more training in Florida on Sunday, Feb. 11, followed by a trip to Argentina in March.
