Wizards push it to the limit Saturday

Davy Arnaud and the Wizards were put to the test during training Saturday.

The Kansas City Wizards participated in a very heavy training session on Saturday, practicing the longest they had all preseason. Kansas City Wizards Head Coach Curt Onalfo said that the coaching staff has been gradually increasing the players' fitness levels throughout the season, and today was a chance to push the team even harder.

"We really picked it up in terms of intensity and training today," Onalfo said. "We wanted to give them a really hard day today and give them tomorrow off to recuperate. We had a very good session, and it ended up being extremely competitive. I'm pleased with the team's performance and they certainly earned their day off tomorrow. We're becoming a team, one small step at a time."

The team not only focused on fitness and endurance today, but they also worked on crossing and finishing to the goal. The Wizards will have tomorrow off, and will return to practice on Monday to prepare for an exhibition against the U.S. Under-17 National Team on Tuesday, Feb. 27.

From a Player's Perspective: Jack Jewsbury

On last week's episodes of American Idol...
"I was pretty disappointed with the guys on American Idol last week. I still like Blake Lewis because I think he has a great voice. And Lakisha Jones was very good, she sang an awesome song. But the guys are going to have to step it up next week if they want to be competitive against the girls."

On hanging out with their teammates...
"Kevin (Hartman) said we never leave our apartment, but I would like to point out that we gave them the first invite ever to our place last week to watch American Idol on Tuesday. But they haven't asked us to come over and we're still waiting for our invitation. We know they have a lot of DVDs and we still haven't been over there."

On their day off...
"Some of the guys are going to Miami, but our van is going to go to Siesta beach. They say it's better than the beach in Bradenton, so we're going to check it out."
