Wizards pick up fourth-round pick

.

The Kansas City Wizards Friday sent one of the team's seven remaining international roster spots to FC Dallas for a 4th round selection in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft. The roster spot will return to the Wizards prior to the 2009 season.

Kansas City now has six international roster spots available after trading one to Real Salt Lake late in 2007. MLS teams, with the exception of Toronto FC, are allotted eight international player spots that may be traded for a set length of time. The international roster slot traded to Real Salt Lake will revert to Kansas City for the 2010 season.

The Wizards currently have four international players on their roster, including Designated Player Claudio Lopez (Argentina), playmaker Carlos Marinelli (Argentina), forward Ivan Trujillo (Colombia) and former open tryout participant Kevin Souter (Scotland). After Friday's trade with FCD, Kansas City has two open international spots available and one vacant senior roster spot. The Wizards got down to 17 senior-roster players (four internationals) earlier in the week when they sent international forward Scott Sealy to the San Jose Earthquakes for allocation money.

Transaction: Kansas City Wizards acquire 4th round 2009 MLS SuperDraft selection from FC Dallas in exchange for international roster spot for remainder of 2008. International slot will revert to Kansas City before 2009 season.
