Wizards 3, Chivas USA 2 -- quote sheet

KANSAS CITY WIZARDS 3, CHIVAS USA 2

KANSAS CITY WIZARDS HEAD COACH CURT ONALFO

On good striker play:
"The important thing is to keep encouraging them, keep taking risks, keep sending numbers forward and keep being dangerous. Our guys did that tonight. I mean they did it right to the end."

On substitutes:
"The subs definitely worked tonight. They (Chivas) were playing very tight in the back and didn't have a lot of forwards so I took a chance and thankfully it worked. In a normal situation I would have put Yura [Movsisyan] in earlier. You remember last week he hurt his ankle, and he really isn't 100 percent. Pore has been playing great with the reserve team and I put him in early."

KANSAS CITY WIZARDS MIDFIELDER KERRY ZAVAGNIN

On tonight's game:
"I think we made it difficult on ourselves tonight. We knew that we needed to come out and get an early goal, because they like to pack it in defensively. Unfortunately the got a goal against the run of play and it was an uphill battle the rest of the first half. We showed a lot of character to get a goal so late in the game to win it."

On his goal:
"All year coaches have been encouraging me to take shots from distance. It isn't something that I will do every game, but I think that I have proved that I can score from there."

KANSAS CITY WIZARDS FORWARD DAVY ARNAUD

On tonight's game:
"It was kind of a crazy game, but we did well. To be even at halftime after missing a penalty kick and still being able to get a goal was good. Getting an early goal in the second half was exactly what we talked about at halftime. Then we had to show a lot of courage to get the game winner in the 89th minute."

On late game goals:
"We obviously have a lot of character and a lot of heart. We understand that it might take a while, but we are confident in each other and keep going and even if it means until the 90th minute."

KANSAS CITY WIZARDS FORWARD YURA MOVSISYAN

On his goal:
"I was just trying to go to goal. I had two guys on me and so I tried to cut the ball and go to goal. I took the best shot I could and it managed to take a good deflection and find the back of the net."

CHIVAS USA HEAD COACH PREKI

On tonight's game:
"I thought that we played well tonight. We were the better team; we had the more of the better chances. We were unlucky to give up a goal so late in the game. Things just didn't bounce our way tonight. We had chances to win the game, and just couldn't capitalize. In a lot of ways we were a better team. We kept the ball more and got more chances."

CHIVAS USA DEFENDER SHAVAR THOMAS

On tonight's game:
"I don't think that we were unlucky tonight. I think that they were just more lucky. Things didn't quite bounce our way, but I thought we played hard all game."

On the crowd:
"The crowd in Kansas City is always good. I love playing here. No matter how many people come they are always loud."

CHIVAS USA DEFENDER JONATHAN BORENSTEIN

On his goal:
"I found myself in the middle of the field and Ante (Razov) did a good job finding me. He played a good ball into the space and I beat the defender there. The ball kind of got away from me, but I got back to it and managed to put it in. Truthfully it was kind of a lucky goal. I turned and shot and it just went past everyone."

On momentum shift:
"After we got the equalizer John Cunliffe got another chance at the top of the box. I felt if he would have put that in we would have been in a great position to win the game. The momentum had shifted our way and we thought we could get out of here with three points. Then we gave up a late goal with two minutes left. And now we don't come away with anything."
