Fire's season ends in Foxboro again as penalty kicks decide series vs. Revolution

The Chicago Fire saw its season end on the Gillette Stadium field for a third straight year last Saturday night, this time after falling to the New England Revolution 4-2 in a penalty kick shootout after the bitter rivals played to a 2-2 draw in their two-game, aggregate goals Eastern Conference Semifinal Series. The Revolution forced the series into extra time after collecting a 2-1 win in Saturday's Game Two, with goals by New England forwards Taylor Twellman (41') and Pat Noonan (58') completing a two-goal comeback in the series after Fire midfielder Nate Jaqua put the "Men in Red" up early in the match with an 18th minute tally. The result was the fifth postseason loss for the Fire at New England in as many attempts, and marked the fourth time since 2000 that the Fire's off-season was started due to the Revolution.

The Fire saw a landmark 2006 season, in which it opened up its new home of TOYOTA PARK, end with an overall record of 18-12-6, which included a 13-11-6 mark in regular season play, a 1-1-0 ledger in its playoff series against New England and its four-win run in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup that landed the "Men in Red" their fourth title in the tournament in just nine years of play.
