GALAXY LOOKING FOR REVENGE VS. THE FIRE:
After dropping a 2-1 MLS regular season game to the Chicago Fire on Saturday, Sept. 23, the Galaxy remain in Chicago and will face the Fire on Wednesday, Sept. 27 in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Championship at Toyota Park at 5:00 p.m. PT. The game will be broadcast live on Fox Soccer Channel. The defending Open Cup champions, the Galaxy is looking to be the first team to win-back-to-back Open Cup titles since 1982-1983. Following the Open Cup game, the Galaxy return home to host Los Angeles rival Chivas USA in the fourth and final installment of the 2006 Honda Super Clasico, presented by Hormel at The Home Depot Center on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 7:30 p.m. The first 10,000 fans will receive a Herculez Gomez action figure delivered by AT&T. The game will be broadcast live on FSN Primeticket, CA$H 1700 AM (English) and KLLA 830 AM (Spanish).

THE PLAYOFF PICTURE: The Western Conference playoff picture remains muddled after a full weekend of MLS play. With three games remaining, the Galaxy is currently in sixth place in the West with 33 points, trailing Real Salt Lake by three. The top four teams in each conference make the playoffs, and after this weekend's games, Dallas (49 pts.) leads the West, followed by Chivas USA (42), Houston (41) and Colorado (39). All three of the Galaxy's remaining matches are against Western Conference opponents, including Chivas USA (Sept. 30) and Dallas (Oct. 7 and Oct. 14). Currently, Los Angeles is six points out of the final Western Conference playoff position, held by Colorado.

GALAXY AIM TO MAKE HISTORY IN OPEN CUP FINAL: The Los Angeles Galaxy advanced to the finals of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup with a 3-1 victory over the Houston Dynamo on Sept. 6, providing the club a chance to make history and be the first team to win back-to-back U.S. Open Cup Championships since 1983. The Galaxy travels to Toyota Park in Chicago to play the Fire on Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 5:00 p.m. PT. The game will be broadcast live on Fox Soccer Channel. This is the fourth time in the last six seasons that the Galaxy has reached the U.S. Open Cup final. Los Angeles won the title in 2001 and 2005 and is looking to be the first team to repeat as champions since the New York Pancyprian Freedoms in 1982-1983. The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, the U.S. Soccer Federation's National Championship, is an annual competition open to all amateur and professional soccer teams affiliated with U.S. Soccer. Dating back to 1914, it is the oldest annual team tournament in U.S. sports history and among the oldest soccer tournaments of its type in the world.


GALAXY AIM FOR SECOND STRAIGHT SUPER CLASICO VICTORY: The Los Angeles Galaxy won the first ever Honda Super Clasico trophy decidedly in 2005, defeating then expansion club Chivas USA in all five games the teams played. The Honda Super Clasico trophy is awarded each season to winner of the season series between the Galaxy and Chivas USA. This season, the 2006 Honda Super Clasico trophy will be decided in the final match-up of the season. The Galaxy won the first meeting this season, a 2-1 comeback win on April 15 and Chivas USA recorded its first ever win over Los Angeles on June 8 in Frank Yallop's debut as head coach of the Galaxy. The Galaxy and Chivas USA played to 0-0 tie on July 15, setting up the Sept. 23 showdown to determine the second Honda Super Clasico trophy.

GALAXY RESERVES FALL IN CHICAGO: The Los Angeles Galaxy Reserves (2-5-2, 8 pts.) fell to the Chicago Fire Reserves (4-4-2, 14 pts.), 3-0, on Sept. 24 at the Schwaben Athletic Club in Buffalo Grove, IL. Chicago forward Ryan Johnson put the home side up 1-0 in the 29th minute and was followed by a goal late in the first half from forward Calen Carr in the 45th minute to give the home side a 2-0 advantage going into halftime. Fire midfielder Floyd Franks chipped a shot over Galaxy goalkeeper Steve Cronin in the 59th minute to give the game its final tally in a 3-0 win for Chicago.
