Fire vs. Galaxy-Take 2; Chicago set to take on Galaxy in 2006 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Final


The Chicago Fire will host the Los Angeles Galaxy for the second time in four days when the clubs meet in the 2006 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Final on Wednesday, Sept. 27 at TOYOTA PARK. Kick-off for the championship of the nation's oldest soccer tournament is set for 7:00 p.m. CT for a match that will be broadcast nationwide on Fox Soccer Channel. Tickets for the contest are still available and can be purchased on a first-come, first-served basis for $25 by calling Ticketmaster at 312-559-1212 or by visiting www.Ticketmaster.com. Tickets are also available at the TOYOTA PARK Box Office located at 7000 S. Harlem Ave. in Bridgeview Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Groups of 10 or more can purchase groups tickets for $20 each by calling 1-888-MLS-FIRE. The 2006 U.S. Open Cup Final brings together MLS's two most successful sides in the 93-year-old domestic tournament, with the Fire's 23-5-2 (.800) record and three championships (1998, 2000 & 2003) matched closely by the Galaxy, who will come into Bridgeview as the only other MLS team to win multiple Dewar Trophies (2001 & 2005) and with an equally as impressive 21-5-0 Open Cup record (.808).

Playoff-bound Fire heads to New York for Eastern Conference showdown vs. Red Bulls
Not only did Saturday's 2-1 win over the Galaxy extend Chicago's home undefeated streak to seven games, but the Club also secured its spot in the MLS Cup Playoffs for the eighth time in nine years. The red-hot Fire (12-9-8, 44 pts.) will look to continue its current two-game win streak when the team travels to the Meadowlands to take on Bruce Arena and his Red Bulls (7-11-11, 32 pts.) on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 6:30 p.m. CT from Giants Stadium. Saturday's Eastern Conference showdown will be televised live on HDNet and can also be followed live via the Fire's Spanish radio station WRTO 1200 AM ... Saturday's match will mark the fourth and final meeting between the teams in the 2006 regular season, and the "Men in Red" lead the series 2-0-1 against its Eastern Conference rival.

FireWorks for Kids and Muscular Dystrophy Association to host "Cruise with the Fire" outing on Oct. 8
The FireWorks for Kids Foundation (FWFK), the Chicago Fire's charitable arm, in conjunction with the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) will host the fourth annual "Cruise with the Fire" outing on Sunday, Oct. 8 - on the Fire's ninth birthday - from 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The family-friendly event will depart from beautiful and historic Navy Pier and board the eloquent Mystic Blue, a sleek, silvery-blue 600-passenger vessel built specifically for cruising the Chicago skyline. Tickets for the event are $75 for adults and $55 for children 12 and under. The event includes a full buffet brunch, two drink tickets, live DJ, silent auction, raffles, and an autograph and photo session with Chicago Fire players (to be determined).   • The Chicago Fire Reserves defeated the Los Angeles Galaxy Reserves Sunday morning, blanking the defending MLS Cup and U.S. Open Cup Champions 3-0 on goals by Ryan Johnson, Calen Carr and Floyd Franks in the 29th, 45th and 59th minutes, respectively. With the win, the Fire Reserves improve their record to 4-4-2, 14 pts. The Reserves will close out the 2006 season at home by hosting the Columbus Crew Reserves on Sunday, Oct. 8 in Chicago (site TBD).

  • The Fire has announced that the Club has added forward Chad Barrett and defender Jeff Curtin to the team's season ending injury list and filled their roster spots by signing defender Idris Ughiovhe and midfielder Adam Ruud to developmental contracts.
