CREW DOWNS MICHIGAN BUCKS IN U.S. OPEN CUP ROUND OF 32

The Columbus Crew advanced to the U.S. Open Cup Round of 16 with a 4-1 win over the Premier Development League Michigan Bucks on July 12 at Stoney Creek High School in Rochester Hills, Mich.

The Crew tallied three second half goals to pull away for the win after being tied at 1-1 at the half. Ezra Hendrickson, Ivan Becerra, Jacob Thomas scored for the Black & Gold, with the fourth and final goal coming via an own goal, while Sebastian Rozental notched all three assists. It only took Columbus 16 minutes to pull in front, with Hendrickson finding the back of the net. But the amateur side equalized just six minutes later through Doug Rice. The 1-1 score held through halftime before Columbus took the lead for good just prior to the hour mark. Rozental earned his second assist of the night by feeding Becerra on a corner kick for what would prove to be the game-winning goal in the 59th minute. Thomas put a stamp on the victory with a blast from 30-plus yards in the 87th minute before a Bucks own goal through Erik Nelson a minute before the final whistle gave the game its final scoreline.
