    Latino Relations Department remains busy

  • The newly formed Latino Relations Department has been busy in the last week expanding the Kansas City Wizards' already strong presence in the region's Latino communities.

The Kansas City Wizards staff was in full force at the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Greater Kansas City held Tuesday at the H&R Block Center downtown. Staff members met with many corporate and local business owners to expand the club's partnership with Latino-owned businesses.

Director of Latino Relations Leo Prieto met with Kansas City Ligas presidents to foster partnerships between the premier professional soccer club in the Midwest and the high-quality Latino futbol leagues throughout the area. With La Ligas' help, the Kansas City Wizards bring La Nueva Onda ("It's what's hot") to Kansas City. The goal is to make Kansas City Wizards events fun and exciting for Latinos and everyone else in the region.

Preki announced head coach of Chivas USA

Former Kansas City Wizards player Preki became the latest coach of Chivas USA Wednesday. Preki, who retired in 2005 as the team's all-time leading scorer, has been on the Chivas coaching staff for the last two years and orchestrated the draft for Chivas this year.

This year's Wizards vs. Chivas match-up, already a fan favorite, should include an extra degree of intensity with Preki returning to Kansas City as head coach of Chivas.
