Galaxy Team Notes

MORE THAN A MAN DOWN: Following Friday's announcement that defender Chris Albright will be out for the next 4-6 months with a torn right hamstring, the Galaxy's long-term injury list now includes four players, with Albright joining Gavin Glinton, Alan Gordon and Troy Roberts who have each missed the entire season with various injuries. U.S. Under-20 National Team midfielder Quavas Kirk has also been hampered by various injuries for most of the season and has played just 15 minutes. All totaled, the Galaxy have lost 26 man games to injury, not including the unavailability of recent acquisitions David Beckham and Abel Xavier who are not eligible to join the club until later in the season.

INTERNATIONAL ABSCENCES: The Galaxy will be without Canadian internationals Kevin Harmse and Ante Jazic this weekend as they have been called up to the Canadian National Team for the CONCACAF Gold Cup. The pair flew to Fort Lauderdale, Fla. on Sunday as Canada opened its training camp before traveling south to Venezuela for a friendly on Friday, June 1. Following that game, Harmse, Jazic and the rest of the Canadian National Team will return to the U.S. to begin final preparations for their Gold Cup opener against Costa Rica on June 6 at the Orange Bowl in Miami.

The only other Galaxy player who will be competing in the Gold Cup will be captain Landon Donovan who is available for selection on Saturday against D.C. United before joining the rest of the U.S. National Team for training at The Home Depot Center on Monday. The U.S. will play a pair of games at The Home Depot Center on June 7 and June 9 before heading east to take on El Salvador at Gillette Stadium.

MARTINO OFF AS WELL: Galaxy head coach Frank Yallop will also be without midfielder Kyle Martino on Saturday night against D.C. Martino was sent off in the 25th minute of LA's 1-0 loss in Colorado on Saturday night. It was the third time in Martino's six-year MLS career that he had been sent off, but the first time it had happened as a member of the Galaxy.

Martino became the first Galaxy player to be sent off in a regular season game since the final game of the 2005 regular season when Tyrone Marshall was sent off in the 17th minute of a 3-1 loss to San Jose.

As a result of this suspension, as well as injuries and international callups, Yallop is expected to have just 16 players available to him on Saturday.

DONOVAN AND KIRK TO BE FEATURED ON WEDNESDAY'S CHILD: On May 30, Galaxy players Landon Donovan and Quavas Kirk will be featured on Fox 11's Wednesday's Child segment during the 10 p.m. news broadcast. Wednesday's Child is a weekly feature that focuses on adoption and helps find permanent, loving adoptive families for children in foster care.

A BUSY DAY AHEAD AT THE HOME DEPOT CENTER: Saturday, June 2 will be a busy day at The Home Depot Center with three special events taking place prior to the Galaxy's game against D.C. United. This game marks the debut of the second specially designed t-shirt from Galaxy artist Terry Davis. Davis will be on hand at the Galaxy Sales table on the Southwest concourse from 6:30-7:30 to talk with fans about his new design and sign autographs.

At the same time, Kinky, the Monterrey, Mexico quintet whose Latin inspired music blends rock, dance and techno, will be performing live inside the stadium. The band will take the stage along the main concourse at 6 p.m.

Lastly, the Galaxy and Infinity Insurance will be doing their part before the game to help fight hunger. Fans are asked to drop-off non-perishable and canned food items at one of The Home Depot Center's entrances, with all donations going to benefit the LA Regional Foodbank. Fans that donate 10 cans or $10 receive a commemorative Galaxy and Infinity Insurance license plate frame.
