Weekly update: Gone to Carolina

Joseph Ngwenya earned his first cap for Zimbabwe in a draw with Morocco Sunday.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Crew departed for Winston-Salem, N.C., Tuesday, March 27, where it will play a pair of preseason games on the campus of Wake Forest University. Columbus will take on the host Demon Deacons tonight, (March 28) and the Kansas City Wizards on Saturday, March 31. Game time both nights is 7 p.m.


The Crew's match against Kansas City on Saturday will be broadcast live on-line at TheCrew.com, with Dwight Burgess and Dante Washington calling all the action.


U.S. UNDER-20 NATIONAL TEAM CAMP UPDATE
Robbie Rogers, Danny Szetela and Tim Ward are in Frisco, Texas, at U.S. Under-20 National Team camp - the squad's first since winning Group A of the CONCACAF Final Round Qualifying Tournament in Panama in January. All three players started the 3-2 defeat of the Southern Methodist University Mustangs on the SMU campus in Dallas on Saturday, March 25. The U-20s will take on the full Haiti National Team tonight (Wednesday, March 28) at 6:20 p.m. ET at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas. The match, which will take place prior to the U.S. Men's National Team's 9 p.m. (ET) match against Guatemala, will be broadcast live on-line via ussoccer.com's MatchACCESS. The trio of players will rejoin the Crew in Winston-Salem later this week.


NGWENYA EARNS FIRST INTERNATIONAL CAP
Crew forward Joseph Ngwenya has been away from the team for several days, due to his call-up to the Zimbabwean National side. And Ngwenya earned his first international cap (appearance) for Zimbabwe, nicknamed the Warriors, as they battled Morocco to a 1-1 tie in an African Nations Cup qualifier on Sunday, March 25, in the Zimbabwean capital of Harare.


CREW TO RECEIVE CITY COUNCIL RESOLUTION ON MONDAY, APRIL 2
On Monday, April 2, Columbus City Council will present the Crew with a Resolution of Expression recognizing the club's first 11 seasons and wishing it luck as it enters its 12th. Crew General Manager Mark McCullers will lead a continent, that will also include select players and coaches, that will be on hand to receive it at Council's meeting at City Hall at 5 p.m. The Crew opens its 12th season at home on Saturday, April 7, against the New York Red Bulls, at 7 p.m.
