GALAXY FACE FC DALLAS WITH PLAYOFFS ON THE LINE:
The Los Angeles Galaxy (10-14-6, 36 pts - 6th West) begin a pivotal two-game series on Saturday, October 7 when the club visits FC Dallas (15-11-4, 49 pts - 1st West) at 5:30 pm (PT) in Pizza Hut Park. The game will be broadcast live on KWHY Ch. 22, and also over the airwaves on CA$H 1700 AM (English) and KMXE 830 AM (Spanish). Los Angeles and Dallas have already met twice in 2006 with the teams splitting the regular season series, following a 1-0 victory for Dallas on May 10 at Pizza Hut Park and a 2-0 win for the Galaxy on August 20 at The Home Depot Center. The Galaxy's regular season will conclude on Saturday, October 14 when Los Angeles hosts Dallas on Saturday, October 14 at 7:30 p.m. in The Home Depot Center.

THE PLAYOFF PICTURE: The Western Conference playoff picture has begun to clear with four teams fighting for the final two playoff spots after the Houston Dynamo clinched a berth along side FC Dallas in the MLS Playoffs. With two games remaining, the Galaxy is currently in sixth place in the West with 36 points, trailing Real Salt Lake by one point. The top four teams in each conference make the playoffs, and after this weekend's games, Dallas (49 pts.) leads the West, followed by Houston (44), Chivas USA (42), and Colorado (39). The Galaxy's two remaining matches are against Western Conference opponent FC Dallas (Oct. 7 @ DAL and Oct. 14 @ LA). Currently, Los Angeles is three points out of the final Western Conference playoff position, held by Colorado.


Los Angeles can qualify for the playoff under the following scenarios:


LA wins its two remaining games AND any two of the following occur:


  • Chivas loses its two remaining games

  • Colorado earns no more than two points in its two remaining games

  • Real Salt Lake earns no more than four points in its two remaining games

  • LA gets a win and a tie in its two remaining games and both of the following occur:


  • Colorado loses its two remaining games AND

  • Real Salt Lake earns less than three points in its two remaining games

    GALAXY CAPTURE SECOND STRAIGHT SUPER CLASICO TROPHY: The Los Angeles Galaxy won the second Honda Super Clasico trophy decidedly with a 3-0 victory over Chivas USA to improve to 7-1-1 all-time series on Saturday night at The Home Depot Center. In 2005, the club defeated then expansion club Chivas USA in all five games the teams played. The Honda Super Clasico trophy is awarded each season to winner of the season series between the Galaxy and Chivas USA. This season, the 2006 Honda Super Clasico MVP trophy was awarded to Galaxy forward Landon Donovan. The Galaxy won the first meeting this season, a 2-1 comeback win on April 15 and Chivas USA recorded its first ever win over Los Angeles on June 8 in Frank Yallop's debut as head coach of the Galaxy. The Galaxy and Chivas USA played to 0-0 tie on July 15 in the third meeting.

    GALAXY RESERVES DEFEAT CHIVAS USA 4-0: The Los Angeles Galaxy Reserves defeated the Chivas USA Reserves, 4-0, on Sunday morning at The Home Depot Center. The crowd of 130 fans witnessed a commanding Galaxy performance characterized by great speed of play and relentless defense. Galaxy forward Gavin Glinton, who was recently acquired from the USL First Division's Charleston Battery, scored two goals while midfielder Josh Gardner and forward Herculez Gomez added a goal each in the victory.
