Weekly update: Crew collision

Jonathan Bornstein and Chivas USA welcome the Columbus Crew Sunday.

Carson, Calif. - Chivas USA (4-5-1, 13 pts.) will take on the Columbus Crew (4-5-2, 14 pts.) this Sunday, June 18 on Father's Day and Ramón Ramírez bobblehead night. The game wiil take place at The Home Depot Center and will be televised by FSN PRIME TICKET, by radio in KTNQ 1020 AM Univision Radio and on line by MLSlive.tv. All father's in attendance will receive a free ticket with the purchase of another one at regular price.


HISTORY AGAINST THE CREW: This will be the third game in the regular season between Chivas USA and the Columbus Crew. Up to now, Chivas USA has won one game and lost one against the Crew. The Crew have scored a total of 3 goals to the Red-and-White's one.


NEXT OPPONENT IS COLORADO: After playing Columbus, Chivas USA will travel to Colorado to play against the Rapids this Wednesday, June 21 at INVESCO Field at Mile High in Denver, Colorado (TV: PRIME TICKET; Radio: 1020 AM Univision; Web: MLSlive.tv). Colorado is currently in third place of the Western Conference with 17 points.


LAST GAME: Chivas USA fell against FC Dallas 2-1 Sunday in an extremely hot afternoon in Texas. The Red-and-White could not contain Carlos Ruíz or Roberto Mina and both scored to lift Dallas on top and keep them in first place in the Western Conference with 24 points. The Red-and-White's only goal came courtesy of Ante Razov who scored his ninth goal of the season.


RAZOV CONTINUES HIS PURSUIT OF HISTORY: Ante Razov tallied the 93rd goal of his illustrious MLS career to put him in third place in the all-time MLS goalscoring list. He is now chasing Jaime Moreno, who currently holds the second spot with 101 goals. At the same time, his ninth goal of the season put him as the best goalscorer of the season and first place on Chivas USA's all-time goalscoring list. Razov also earned top honors as Player of the Week after scoring three times this past week.


NEXT HOME GAME: The Houston Dynamo will visit Chivas USA on June 28 as the Red-and-White honor Oswaldo Sánchez. All fans in attendance will receive a bobblehead of the Mexican goalkeeper. Houston is currently in the second spot of the Western Conference with 18 points. All the action will begin at 7:30 p.m. PT at The Home Depot Center.


CHIVAS USA VIEWING PARTIES: Cheer Claudio Suárez on and the rest of the Mexican Selection as well as the U.S. National Selection as they try to advance to the second round. Chivas USA will be on hand at ESPN Zone in Anaheim for every game to bring you all the action as well as prizes, music and fun in every Mexico and U.S. match. ESPN Zone is located on 1500 Disneyland Dr. Anaheim, CA.


SUÁREZ IN THE WORLD CUP: Mexico beat their first opponent, Iran 3-1 last Sunday. Two goals by Omar Bravo, one by Antonio Naelson 'Zinha' and an incredible effort by Oswaldo Sánchez lifted El Tri. Claudio Suárez didn't see any action in the match. However, Claudio figures to be a key figure for the next game against Angola. He could see action this Friday in Hanover against Angola.


O'BRIEN IN THE WORLD CUP: John O'Brien came in as a 46th-minute substitute in the U.S.'s 3-0 loss Monday against the Czech Republic in the Americans' Group E opener. The U.S. will play Italy next on Saturday at noon PT.

VIRGIN OF MIRACLES: The Virgin of Zapopan continues her journey through Southern California. Currently, the Virgin is in the Church of Natividad on la Iglesia del Imaculado Corazón de Maria in Hollywood. The ChivaTroca will continue to transport this revered statue of the Virgin Mary through her pilgrimage in over 12 Southern California churches, which will end with a special mass at The Home Depot Center on July 15, the date of the third 'Honda Super Clasico' of 2006.


AMÉRICA AND BARCELONA COMING TO TOWN: Cuauhtémoc Blanco and the rest of Club América will take on Chivas USA on Sunday, July 23, 2006 at The Home Depot Center. UEFA Champions League winner and Spanish champion Barcelona will also be in Los Angeles August 6 to face Club Deportivo Guadalajara. Ronaldinho, Messi, Marquez and Eto'o will be among the stars that will face the Mexican squad in the doubleheader that will also include Chivas USA vs. the New England Revolution, starting at 4:00 p.m. PT. GUADALAJARA UPDATE: Chivas de Guadalajara began training in the Pacific coast of the state of Colima. The Red-and-White worked in physical aspects, especially leg exercises as well as timing and reaction exercises. They finished off doing headers. Guadalajara will play their second game against Vélez Sarsfield of Argentina on July 20 when Copa Libertadores starts play once again.


CHIVAS USA FUTBOL ACADEMY: The Chivas USA Futbol Academy continues play this week in preparation for this weekend's slate of games in Baldwin Park, with sessions at The Home Depot Center's Field 5 from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday and Friday.
