Galaxy Team Notes
OPEN CUP BERTH UP FOR GRABS: The Galaxy are back in action on Tuesday night when they take on the New York Red Bulls in a U.S. Open Cup Play-In Game at The Home Depot Center. After dispatching the Columbus Crew 1-0 in their first Play-In Game late last month, LA finds itself just one win away from a berth in the Third Round of the tournament.

This season eight MLS teams will be entered into the Third Round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The top three teams from a year ago in each of the two conferences were automatically entered, leaving two spots for the six remaining teams. The four teams that did not make the postseason played last month with the Galaxy beating Columbus and Real Salt Lake edging Kansas City. LA now plays New York and Salt Lake plays Colorado with the two winners being entered in the Open Cup Third Round which is scheduled to be played on July 10.

STARTING OFF CLEAN: For the fourth time since first entering the U.S. Open Cup in 1999, the LA Galaxy opened their Cup campaign with a clean sheet as Steve Cronin made three saves in a 1-0 win over the Columbus Crew. Each of the first three times that the Galaxy claimed a clean sheet in their first Open Cup game (2001, 2002 and 2006), the club would go on to reach the Open Cup Final, winning in 2001 but losing in 2002 and 2006. Cronin is now 2-0 all-time in the Open Cup with wins over Columbus and Chivas USA in the Fourth Round of the 2005 Open Cup.

DOUBLE TROUBLE: For the second time this season, the Galaxy will play a Tuesday U.S. Open Cup game followed by a Saturday league game. LA will this week hope to replicate their performances from two weeks ago when the club defeated Columbus 1-0 in the Cup and then knocked off Chivas USA 3-1 in the league.

SCHEDULE STARTS TO PICK UP: The 2007 MLS season is recently completed its fifth slate of weekend matches for the year, however, the Galaxy have played on just two of those five weekends. That will all change now as the Galaxy will play on eight of the next nine weekends leading into July's World Series of Football. Frank Yallop's squad begins its first set of consecutive weekends with a game on Saturday, the Galaxy take on New England at The Home Depot Center. Then, eight days later on May 20, the Galaxy take on Chivas USA in the second installment of the Honda Super Clásico. All totaled, the

THE RESERVES RETURN: In each of the first two years of the Reserve Division, the Galaxy have finished ninth out of 12 teams, collecting a 4-5-3 record in 2005 and a 4-6-2 record in 2006. Herculez Gomez is the Galaxy's all-time leading scorer in the Reserve Division with eight goals in 11 games while goalkeeper Steve Cronin has started 22 of the team's 24 Reserve Division games over the last two years.

GALAXY HOST EQUIPMENT DRIVE: Prior to Saturday's game against New England, the Galaxy will collect gently used soccer equipment as part of the club's U.S. Soccer Foundation Passback initiative.
