This Week with the Wizards - Headlines for Week of July 17, 2006:
Wizards Head To The Big Apple
Following a well-deserved week off from play, the Kansas City Wizards hit
the road this weekend for a match this Saturday, July 22nd, at Red Bull New
York. The Wizards and Red Bulls have met once already this season, battling
to a 1-1 draw at Arrowhead Stadium on June 3rd. Kansas City is still
looking to break out of its current funk and a win at Giants Stadium on
Saturday night could do just that. Currently tied for third with 20 points,
the Wizards sit just four points shy of second place but just two points
ahead of fifth place in the bunched up Eastern Conference. Prior to its
midweek showdown at Columbus this Wednesday, New York is sixth in the East,
just three points short of the third place Wizards. Altogether, there are
only seven points separating the sixth place Red Bulls and second place New
England Revolution. Kickoff for Saturday's match is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
CT, and can be seen live on both HDNet and the MLS Direct Kick Package.
Reminder: Wizards vs. Revolution on July 29
Following this weekend's match in New York, the Wizards return home to host
the New England Revolution on July 29th. Don't forget, next Saturday's
match against the Revs was originally scheduled for this Wednesday the 19th
but changed to the 29th earlier this season. Kickoff for the match at
Arrowhead Stadium on July 29th remains 7:30 p.m. CT. Since the match was
first scheduled to take place on a Wednesday night and then moved to a
Saturday night, the Wizards will still be offering their always popular $1
Wednesday promotion for the game. Thanks to Johnsonville, Mrs. Bairds and
Edy's, the Wizards will be offering $1 hot dogs and $1 Nestle Ice Cream bars
at the Arrowhead Stadium concession stands that Saturday.
van den Bergh Ready For Debut
Recent signee Dave van den Bergh is hopes to make his debut as a Wizard this
Saturday against the Red Bulls. A standout winger from Dutch Eredivisie
side FC Utrecht, van den Bergh's rights were acquired on June 2nd but Kansas
City had to wait to utilize the services of van den Bergh until FIFA's
International Transfer Window opened on this week on July 17th.
Wizards' Budweiser Official Watch Party Network
With Kansas City returning to the airwaves this weekend when it takes on the
New York Red Bulls, so does the Wizards' Official Watch Party Network
sponsored by Budweiser. Fans can gather with each other and dawn their blue
and white to root on their team at one of the Wizards' Official Watch Party
Network sites. Aces & 8's in Shawnee, the 810 Zone in Leawood, a pair of
Paddy O'Quigley's in Lee's Summit, Buffalo Wild Wings in Raytown, and the
Brass Rail in the northland.
Reserves To Do Battle Sunday
The Wizards reserves return to the pitch this weekend for their fourth game
in as many weeks. Fresh off of a 3-2 come-from-behind victory this past
Sunday over the Houston Dynamo reserves at the Arrowhead Practice Facility,
Kansas City has strengthened its hold on first place in the Reserve Division
with a 5-2-0 record. The Red Bulls' reserves boast a 2-2-1 record thus far
in 2006. Originally scheduled to be played on Sunday morning, the reserve
match will now take place immediately following the full side match on
Saturday night. The reserve match will not be televised.
Dogs Night Out: August 12
The Wizards will be hosting a special night for their four-legged fans on
Saturday, August 12th, when they host their first-ever "Dogs Night Out" at
Arrowhead Stadium for their match against the Columbus Crew. Fans attending
the game will be able to purchase a ticket package that will allow them to
bring their dogs inside of Arrowhead and sit in a special "Dogs Night Out"
seating section. Before the game dogs and their owners can participate in
Doggie Street where there will be vendor booths and fun activities for both
dog and owner. Ticket packages begin at $20 and all dogs in attendance will
receive a free doggie bag. There will also be prizes awarded for the best
Wizards themed dog outfit. Large watering stations will be provided and a
portion of the proceeds generated from this event will be donated to The KC
Pet Program. To register your dog and/or receive more information on the
