Kansas City Wizards Training Schedule Feb. 19 - 26

The Kansas City Wizards resume training in Kansas City Tuesday, Feb. 19 at 12 p.m. CT at the Kansas City Wizards Swope Park Training Center.


Kansas City will train at noon Tuesday through Friday either at the Wizards Swope Park Training Center or KC Sports Lodge in Independence; location to be determined based on weather.


Kansas City will also train next Monday and Tuesday in town before departing Wednesday to complete pre-season training in Argentina Feb. 28 - March 14. To verify Kansas City practice locations, contact Press Officer Kyle Rogers by phone at 913.568.2213 or email at krogers@kcwizards.com.

Wizards to Host Event at Abe and Jake's in Lawrence Friday

On Friday, Feb. 22, the Wizards will host a meet and greet at Abe and Jake's Landing in Lawrence, Kan. from 10:30 - 12:30 p.m. For directions and other info, see Abe and Jake's site here. Selected players, Starting 11 Girls and staff will be present. The event will be similar to a successful one held at VooDoo Lounge in North Kansas City prior to the 2007 season.


Fans will be able to enter a drawing to participate in a foosball tournament with Kansas City Wizards players. Two male and two female entrants will be selected at random to compete in a round-robin 2v2 foosball competition, partnered with Wizards players. The winning fan will receive their choice of an autographed soccer ball or an autographed Kansas City Wizards jersey. All four participants in the competition will receive Kansas City Wizards T-shirts.


Starting 11 Girls Tryouts Held Thursday at McFadden's in Power and Light District

The second-annual tryout for members of the Kansas City Wizards Starting 11 Girls squad will take place Thursday. Tryouts will be held Feb. 21 at 7:30 p.m. at McFadden's Sports Saloon in the Power and Light District across from Sprint Center. Metro Sports will cover the event, and Kansas City Wizards goalkeeper Kevin Hartman will be a guest judge.


Starting 11 Girls will represent the Wizards organization at various events, including roles before, during and after home matches at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City, Kan. Jenny, who was voted Kansas City radio personality of the year in 2006 and 2007, will be the squad director and in charge of selecting the other members of the squad. The deadline for entrants was last Friday. The Wizards received hundreds of applications; the final 75 will take part in the tryout Thursday.


Media Encouraged to Attend Open Tryouts Saturday, Sunday

The Kansas City Wizards will hold the first-ever open tryouts in team history beginning Saturday morning at 9 a.m. CT at KC Sports Lodge in Independence. The field of participants will be whittled down, with selected members returning Sunday to take part in a second day of matches. Participants Sunday will vie for the right to train with the Wizards first team later in pre-season with a professional contract at stake.


Members of the Wizards technical staff will be on hand both days. Media are encouraged to attend, as technical staff members will be made available for comment between sessions. Tryout participants and schedules will be posted Wednesday at kcwizards.com.


Wizards Launch New-Look Myspace Page

One month after launching Hillcrest Road, the official team blog of the Kansas City Wizards, the Wizards continued their new-media evolution by unveiling a new-look Myspace page that promises to be more interesting and attractive for fans than ever before. See the new Myspace layout here.


Kansas City will continue its new media initiatives from 2007 with periodic YouTube clips and introduce new initiatives, such as the launch of a new Facebook application in the coming weeks.
