Weekly Notes: Fire storm the capital

CHICAGO FIRE @ D.C. UNITED


The Chicago Fire (4-1-1, 13 pts.) return to the road for their second road game in six days against D.C. United (2-4-0, 6 pts.) on Thursday, May 8, at RFK Stadium in the nation's capital. Kickoff for the match is set for 6:30 p.m. CT. The Fire are coming off a 3-0 road win over New England, while United fell 2-0 on the road at Colorado on Sunday and have lost three of their last four contests. Thursday's game will be televised by ESPN2 and will be on Chicagoland radio stations WNVR 1030-AM (POL) WRTO 1200-AM (SPA).

The Chicago Fire are even in all-time series with D.C. United with a 12-12-7 mark, which includes a 4-9-3 record in games played in the nation's capital. Chicago are 2-2-3 in their last 7 regular season games against United, with D.C. taking the 2007 series 1-0-2. Should Chicago win Thursday, they would have the best 7-game start in team history, ahead of the 1999 team's 5-2-0 start.

The Chicago Fire School Assembly program, sponsored by Walgreens, continues this week as defender Brandon Prideaux and midfielder Stephen King visit Cardenas School, located at 2345 S. Millard, in Chicago, this Tuesday, May 6, from 1:30-2:15 p.m. CT. This Saturday, May 10, defender Daniel Woolard will be making an appearance, sponsored by Anheuser-Busch, at Sam's Club, located at 2601 S. Cicero Ave., in Cicero, Il., from 2:30-4:00 p.m. CT. On Sunday, May 11, defender Gonzalo Segares will be help celebrate "Dia De La Madre" at the Brookfield Zoo, located at 3300 Golf Rd., in Brookfield, Ill., from 12:30 - 2:00 p.m. CT.

FIRE ACADEMY WIN ONE, DRAW ONE VS. FC KENDALL


The Chicago Fire Academy won one and drew one versus FC Kendall (Miami, Fla.) last Saturday in U.S. Soccer Development Academy league action at Argo High School. The Fire U-16 team won 2-1 over FC Kendall courtesy of a goal 2-goal effort from midfielder Emanuel Guzman in the 15th and 59th minutes. The U-18 team tied FC Kendall 1-1 as forward Andy Huftalin scored in the 72nd minute, but Kendall came back with a 93rd minute to get the draw.

ACADEMY DIRECTOR LOUIS MATEUS WITH U.S. U-14 TEAM


Chicago Fire Academy Director Louis Mateus has joined the U.S. U-14 Boy's National Team coaching staff for their training camp in Carson, Calif. on Saturday, May 3 and will stay with the team until Saturday, May 10. Mateus will recognize U.S. forward Victor Zamora, as he coached the Rockford, Ill. native with the Rockford Raptors.

FIRE PREMIER PDL FORWARD IN U.S. U-20 CAMP


Chicago Fire Premier PDL forward Peri Marosevic (University of Michigan) has been selected to join head coach Thomas Rongen's 18-man U.S. U-20 squad in Manchester, England for a week-long training camp. The team will play three friendlies against the reserve teams from Bolton (May 7), Manchester United (May 8) and Liverpool (May 10).
