Valencia victory not enough to save Knut

Rosenborg's Knut Torum (left) and Chelsea's Jose Mourinho are both out of jobs one month after this September match.

TRONDHEIM - Rosenborg have parted company with coach Knut Torum, the club confirmed on Thursday.

Torum was named interim coach in the summer of 2006 following the departure of Per-Mathias Hogmo, before being handed the role on a full-time basis after leading the Trondheim club to the Tippeligaen title.

However, this season has not gone to plan and Rosenborg sit sixth in the Norwegian standings - 16 points behind leaders Brann - with two rounds remaining.

Torum's farewell appearance was an impressive 2-0 win over Valencia in the Champions League on Wednesday, but it was not enough to save his job.

"It's obviously sad to be sitting here," Torum told a press conference on Thursday.

"But I've had two fantastic years at Lerkendal. When I rolled up in the dressing room I never thought I would be sitting here with so many experiences and stories.

"I'd like to say a huge thank you to Rosenborg for the experiences I've had, they've been a fantastic club to work with.

"Also huge thanks to the players who have worked alongside me. The way they stood up and performed yesterday, that was great."

Trond Henriksen and Kare Ingebrigtsen will take charge of the club until the end of the year.
