United waives F Franco Niell

WASHINGTON, D.C. --
D.C. United has announced the club has waived forward Franco Niell. The 24-year-old forward was acquired by United on January 22, 2008 on a one-year loan from First Division Argentine side Argentinos Junior.

Niell leaves D.C. United after tallying one assist in seven games (three starts) for the Black-and-Red. The Argentine also contributed to United's reserve team, scoring four goals and one assist in five games (all starts).

Before joining United, Niell spent his entire professional career with Argentinos Junior, making his debut during the 2004-05 campaign. As a 21-year-old during his first season he saw time in four games, all as a substitute, notching one goal. During the 2005-06 campaign, the forward scored six goals in 27 games (19 starts). The following season he tallied two goals in 18 games (seven starts) and this year has contributed a goal in nine games (one start). Since Niell's professional debut in 2004, he has made 60 appearances with 10 goals for Argentinos Juniors.
