United host 'Hometown Heroes Night'

D.C. United announced today details for the club's sixth annual Hometown Heroes Night, presented by GEICO, set for Saturday, September 29 when the Black-and-Red host Toronto FC. In addition to honoring local law enforcement, fire departments and emergency medical personnel, D.C. United will offer these and other public safety groups discounted tickets to the match. Associate sponsors American Airlines, Metro and the American Red Cross, working in conjunction with America Supports You, have helped to make this event possible. Kickoff for the game is set for 7:30 p.m.

Prior to Saturday's match, the Fairfax County Police Department Honor Guard will present the national colors. In addition to Fairfax County, police departments from Arlington County and Alexandria are expected to be in attendance, and the Peace Corps will be represented at Soccer Celebration.

Tickets are available to all Fire, Police, EMS and Government Departments (with identification) for $15 in advance and $20 day of game. Tickets may be purchased by calling the United offices at 202-587-5000 or by logging on to dcunited.com.

Following a draw with the Chicago Fire last Sunday, United (15-6-5, 50 points) sits in first place in Major League Soccer, four points clear of New England in the Eastern Conference. A win or a draw Saturday against Toronto FC guarantees the Black-and-Red a first or second seed and home-field advantage for the first round of the MLS Cup Playoffs. The team is in the midst of a 10-game unbeaten streak (8-0-2), the second longest such streak in MLS this year.
