United Drives to collect toys during August

WASHINGTON, D.C. - D.C. United announced today plans to collect toys throughout of the month of August to benefit the Children's National Medical Center and the Children of Mine program in Ward 8 of the District. D.C. United stands atop the League standings with a 13-2-6 record (45 points) with upcoming matches scheduled for August 19, 23 and 26 at RFK Stadium.


"D.C United has the utmost respect for Children's National Medical Center and Children of Mine," said United Sr. Vice President Stephen Zack. "We are proud to support their programs and hope we are able to collect an abundance of toys to support their efforts."


Children's National Medical Center is one of the top 10 pediatric hospitals in the country and has served the healthcare needs of families in the Washington D.C. area for more than 130 years. Children's National Medical Center upholds a policy to accept every child in need, and provides more than $53 million in uncompensated care.


Children of Mine is an after-school program in the violent neighborhood of Anacostia supporting children from troubled families. The program provides children a safe environment for homework as well as a hot meal.


United Drives donations are accepted at every D.C. United home game at RFK Stadium. The collection bin is location outside Gate A and is open from two hours prior to the game until 15 minutes after kick-off. Donations are also accepted in the D.C. United offices, located inside Gate A of RFK Stadium.


This season marks the sixth year of the United Drives campaign, which collects a different item each month to benefit D.C.-area non-profit organizations. Fans who donate an item will receive a "Buy One, Get One Free" ticket voucher, good for any 2006 D.C. United regular season home game and a D.C. United promotional item.
