United Drives to collect soccer equipment during May

Washington, D.C. - D.C. United announced today plans to collect soccer equipment throughout of the month of May to benefit the U.S. Soccer Foundation's Passback program. Passback collects new and gently used equipment, including cleats, shin guards, soccer balls and goalkeeper gloves. The equipment will then be distributed to United Soccer Club, D.C. United's after-school soccer program for elementary school children East of the Anacostia, and DC SCORES, an after-school and summer camp program emphasizing academic and athletic wellness through soccer. "United Drives is a long-standing and worthwhile program that we are passionate about," said Manager of Community Relations Aprile Pritchet. "We are pleased to continue our partnership with the U.S. Soccer Foundation, as we collect much-needed soccer equipment for D.C.-area youth."


Fans who donate an item will receive a "Buy One, Get One Free" ticket voucher, valid for any 2007 D.C. United regular season home game (with the exception of Aug. 9 vs. Los Angeles). The first 100 fans to donate will get a free poster, which features Bobby Boswell, Jaime Moreno, Luciano Emilio, Ben Olsen and Christian Gomez, courtesy of the U.S. Soccer Foundation and Radiant Logistics. Items will be collected at United's three May home games - May 3 vs. the New England Revolution, May 6 vs. Chivas USA and May 26 vs. the Houston Dynamo.


United Drives donations are accepted at every D.C. United regular season home game at RFK Stadium. The collection bin is location outside Gate A and is open from two hours prior to the game until 15 minutes after kick-off. Donations are also accepted in the D.C. United offices, located on the fourth floor at RFK Stadium's Gate A. This season marks the seventh year of the United Drives campaign, which collects a different item each month to benefit D.C.-area non-profit organizations.
