WASHINGTON-, D.C. - United for D.C., the charitable arm of D.C. United, opens its holiday auction today via dcunited.com. Soccer fans will be able to bid on exclusive items unavailable for purchase anywhere else, with proceeds going to United's non-profit arm. The auction listings close periodically throughout Sunday, December 16, and provide the perfect opportunity to get a jump-start on holiday shopping while supporting the many programs of United for D.C.
One special item up for bid is the D.C. United Jr. Captain experience. The Jr. Captain experience includes the chance for a youth to exit the team tunnel in his or her own D.C. United jersey alongside United's captain for the game. In addition to being on the field for introductions, the youth will also be in the pre-game team photo for the regular season home game. The Jr. Captain experience must be used prior to October 1, 2008 and is not valid for the LA Galaxy game, international games or any playoff games. The Jr. Captain experience includes two Premium-level tickets for the Jr. Captain and a chaperone.</p>
Other premium items up for bid are match-worn jerseys of D.C. United's top stars, including Christian Gomez, Luciano Emilio and Ben Olsen. The auction also includes an autographed, match-worn Fred jersey, an autographed 2007 D.C. United team jersey, a ball autographed by members of the 1997 MLS Cup Championship team and several other specialty jerseys. The auction will also feature items from MLS Cup and a U.S. National Team jersey.
