United announces Winter Training

The D.C. United Academy helps to give girls and boys the comprehensive soccer skills that may have supporters cheering them one day.

D.C. United Academy announced today dates for its newly designed Winter Indoor Training sessions. Training sessions for both boys and girls will be held at Sports Network and Fitness in Manassas, Virginia beginning the second week in December. As part of a strong commitment to the DC-Metro Community, United's Academy has designed age-specific programs for proper technical and tactical development, it is designed to meet the needs of a potential or serious soccer players 5-16 years old. The comprehensive program will emphasize individual skills, small-sided games, passing and shooting, and creativity on the field. Players will receive top-class professional instruction from D.C. United Academy staff and will be evaluated for the Academy youth teams. The Winter Academy runs for eight weeks for 60 minutes per session. Space is limited to the first 20 players in each age group, due to the size of the indoor facility. Cost is $160 per student. The Sports Network and Fitness is a temperature controlled indoor soccer and futsal facility with two new playing fields: one synthetic grass field and the other is an official US FUTSAL hard court field.


The Winter Academy will feature guest instruction anad autograph sessions with D.C. United players, a free ticket voucher to the 2008 D.C. United regular season home opener, membership in D.C. United's Youth Fan Club and discount offers on D.C. United ticket packages.


D.C. United Academy's goal is to provide a challenging environment that demands good training habits. Ultimately, encouraging a passion for the game by showing players how to accelerate their own progress through self-teaching. The progressive winter training program is a fun and rewarding experience that will prepare each player for the Spring 2008 season.


The United Academy's Indoor Training sessions begin December 2007 and run through March 2008.
