United announce Fourth Annual United Builds Day

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Tomorrow, D.C. United will join DC Habitat for Humanity for the Fourth Annual United Community Build project. United will help Habitat for Humanity, at its 54th and Clay Street, NE location, beginning at 8:00 a.m. All told, 19 members of D.C. United's staff are expected to take part in the all-day event. Three D.C. United players, Devon McTavish, Domenic Mediate and Bobby Boswell, will join the staff at 1 p.m. to lend a helping hand as well.

"United Builds is an ideal opportunity for our players, staff and fans to serve the community in a meaningful way," said United Sr. Vice President Stephen Zack. "We're proud to support DC Habitat for Humanity in their noble effort in NE Washington and will continue to seek additional opportunities to make a positive impact in the community that so passionately supports our club."

United players and staff can expect to have their hands in a little of everything, as DC Habitat For Humanity's 54th and Clay Street project represents an ambitious undertaking. The organization plans to build 53 homes on the 4.3-acre lot over the next few years. DC Habitat for Humanity works to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness in the nation's capitol by building affordable, energy and resource-efficient homes.

Now in its second year of operation, United Builds has become an integral part of D.C. United's community service arm, working to build a better Washington D.C. An employee-based volunteer program, United Builds helps to organize the D.C. United family - including players, coaches, the front office and fans - by providing opportunities to volunteer within local communities to help enrich the lives of those less fortunate.

This year, United Builds has taken part in numerous projects, including supporting a blood drive with the American Red Cross, planting trees as part of the Pope Branch Restoration Project, and serving meals for the less fortunate in conjunction with the So Others Might Eat (SOME) program.
