UEFA dish out five fines from CL

Atletico Madrid fans caused their club to be fined after crowd disturbances during a match against Bolton.

Five clubs have been fined by UEFA's control and disciplinary body following incidents which marred recent Champions League and UEFA Cup fixtures.

French title-holders Lyon were fined 5,000 Swiss francs (3,200 euros) for "incidents of an unsporting nature" in their Champions League clash with Manchester United last month, a match which saw Cristiano Ronaldo targeted with a laser pen before the 1-1 draw at Stade Gerland.

Lyon will not be allowed to appeal the fine, a statement from UEFA said.

Atletico Madrid were handed the biggest financial penalty of 30,000 Swiss francs (19,206 euros) for crowd disturbances and throwing of missiles during the second leg of their UEFA Cup last-32 match against Bolton on February 21.

Bolton, who won the tie 1-0 on aggregate after a goalless second leg, were fined 10,000 Swiss francs (6,401 euros) for disturbances in the stands.

Brann and Everton were also punished after similar incidents marred their UEFA Cup last-32 match in Bergen on February 13.

The Norwegians were fined 15,000 Swiss francs (9,611 euros) while Everton must pay out 5,000 Swiss francs (3,200 euros) after trouble during the match which the English side won 1-0.

Atletico, Bolton, and Brann all have three days to lodge an appeal if they so wish but Everton cannot challenge the decision.

Zenit St Petersburg will have to wait a little longer to see if they face disciplinary action after the hearing into alleged racial abuse of Marseille players during their UEFA Cup meeting was postponed.

OM defender Ronald Zubar claimed he was the victim of racist abuse from Zenit fans while he was warming up during the last-16 second leg on March 12.

UEFA have said they will investigate the claims at their next meeting with a disciplinary inspector looking into the incident.
