U18s, U16s Academy update

U18 v Potomac

The U18's entered the game with Potomac tied for first place in the Mid-Atlantic Division of the USSF Development Academy. The team was looking to improve on the performance in the previous game, where they had to overcome a 4-1 deficit to record an exciting 5-4 win over their arch rivals, PDA. The game started quite well for the Red Bulls has they took a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute when fellow Georgis combined for a great goal. Giorgi Chirgadze beat his defender and slipped Giorgi Lomtadze in on goal and he slotted the ball past the goalkeeper. However, the Red Bulls saw the lead erased in the next 10 minutes as Potomac scored on a defensive error and on a 25 yard free kick. Right before half-time the Red Bulls evened the score when Sam Archer scored, again from a Giorgi Chirgadze assist. As they did last week against PDA, the U18's dominated the majority of the second half. Matt Kassel scored from a penalty kick in the 58th minute and Cesar Blacido scored in injury time from Nunzio Belfiore to make the score 4-2.

U16 Update

The season for the U16's began with a 2-0 win over Ohio Elite in the winter showcase in Dallas. The following match saw the U16's lose 3-0 to a talented Michigan Wolves side that is recognized as one of the best U16 teams in the nation. Back at home the U16's fell again to Match Fit by a score of 3-0. In difficult weather conditions with hard rain and strong wind the young group took the initiative, managing the game and creating a number of opportunities, but were unable to find the net. The team found their third loss in the row, 2-0. Despite the unfavorable results the team is getting better game by game and that was evident last weekend with a great come back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Potomac, 3-2. U16 head coach Antonio Meza was happy to see that the team found the way to finish the chances that they created. The team will continue to work hard in order to continue this momentum and hopefully begin a sequence of positive results to catch up with the top of the standings.
