U-18 Dynamo win Dallas Cup opener

The Dynamo U-18s won their first game of the Dallas Cup over England's Knowsley Youth.

The Houston Dynamo Academy U-18 team won its opening game at the 2008 Dallas Cup on Monday, beating Knowsley Youth from England, 2-0, at Richland College. The Dynamo improve to 1-0 in U-19 Group B play and will face HPFC Heat Blue, from Washington, tomorrow morning at 10 a.m.

Team captain Mitchell Cardenas (The Woodlands College Park / Texas Rush) opened the scoring in the 11th minute. In the second half, forward Carlos Recinos (Cy Ridge / Houstonians) netted the team's second goal in the 55th minute.

The Dynamo dominated play in fierce winds but could not finish more of their chances. Blake Shannon (Kingwood / Texans) was sent off late in the game, and Knowsley quickly earned a penalty kick, but the shot went wide and the Dynamo held on for the shutout.

Knowsley Youth had opened Group B play with a 3-1 win over Texas Cyclones White yesterday. The Dynamo face the Cyclones on Wednesday at an auxiliary field at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas.
