Toronto trades Casey to Rapids

Conor Casey

Toronto FC stayed busy on the player market Friday, sending forward Conor Casey to the Colorado Rapids in exchange for a third round pick in the 2008 MLS SuperDraft, an allocation and the rights to Canadian player Riley O'Neill.

Casey came on as a subsitute for Toronto in the club's first two games, playing a total of 58 minutes. The U.S. international came to the Canadian club at the beginning of March from German 1.Bundesliga side FSV Mainz.

"We're sorry to see him go, but adding three (new players) to lose two, it made sense on our part." said head coach Mo Johnston.

Casey, 25, has made eight appearances for the Stars and Stripes. He last played with the team in 2005.

It's the fourth move in two days for the expansion side. On Thursday, Toronto got defender Kevin Goldthwaite and a first round 2008 draft pick from Houston Dynamo in exchange for midfielder Richard Mulrooney and acquired defender Marvell Wynne from the New York Red Bulls, sending a partial allocation and a second round 2008 draft pick to New York.

Johnston also secured the signature of former Preston North End forward Daniele (Danny) Dichio Thursday.

The Casey deal is the second trade Toronto has made with Colorado this season. They traded attacking midfielder Jose Cancela to the Rapids on April 6.
