Toronto FC wants Torontonians to get moving

Soccer Mania is about to hit Toronto. Soccer Mania is a spectacle for fans as part of Toronto's Get Your Move On campaign, taking place at BMO Field on Tuesday, September 18 from 4 to 7 p.m.

Kicked off in June 2005, the Get Your Move On campaign is aimed at promoting the benefits of incorporating physical activity into everyday life.

Toronto's Mayor and avid soccer fan David Miller will participate in the opening ceremonies. Admission to Soccer Mania is free for spectators, who will have an opportunity to see a Toronto FC Inter-Squad match, participate in interactive soccer activities, get valuable tips from soccer professionals, and watch drills and skills demonstrations.

"We're excited to host Get Your Move On's Soccer Mania," said Tom Anselmi, executive vice-president and chief operating officer of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment and private sector chair of the Get Your Move On campaign. "Our event goal is simple - we want Torontonians to get active and be healthy. Playing soccer is just one great way to motivate people and get them physically active."

Get Your Move On is an initiative formed between public, private and voluntary sector organizations that includes the City of Toronto and Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE), the owner of Toronto FC, the Leafs, Raptors and Marlies. It addresses the current epidemic of physical inactivity in Toronto by raising public awareness, creating more opportunities and reducing barriers to enable all residents to be physically active where they live, work, learn and play. Physical activity will enhance the physical, psychological and social health of the people of Toronto and serve to create vibrant, liveable, healthy communities that will contribute to the social, economic and environmental health of Toronto.

CBC Television and the YMCA have also signed on as event partners for Soccer Mania.

BMO Field is the home of Major League Soccer's Toronto FC and Canada's National Soccer teams. As Canada's only soccer specific stadium, BMO Field is located on the Grounds of Exhibition Place.
