Toronto FC's reserve team lost their first league match of 2008. They went down 3-2 to Kansas City Wizards at BMO Field Saturday night. Goals from Jarrod Smith and Jeff Cunningham had given Toronto a 2-0 first half lead.
Cunningham played in Smith to open the scoring for TFC in the 6th minute and Cunningham scored himself wth a good finish past Eric Kronberg 20 minutes later. The striker only played the first half of the game, having already come on as a substitute for the first team earlier in the day.
Ryan McMahen pulled Kansas City back into the game with a goal just before half time, and it stayed 2-1 to Toronto until the final 20 minutes. Matt Marquess tied the game on 71, and Jonathan Leathers scored the Wizards winner with 13 minutes to go.
Olivier Tebily and Julius James paired up in the centre of defense for TFC. It was Tebily's first appearance for TFC since signing on Thursday and James first competitive start since injuring his shoulder in preseason.
Toronto FC reserves return to action Friday at BMO Field against New York.
