Toronto FC announce 2008 schedule

Major League Soccer today announced the complete regular season schedule for 2008. This is the 13th season of MLS, and will see each of the 14 clubs play 30 Regular Season games over 31 weeks, for a total of 210 matches. In their second MLS season, Toronto FC will face the majority of their Eastern Conference opponents three times, while the six Western Conference teams will be played home and away.

The season opens for Toronto FC with three straight games away from BMO Field beginning March 29 in Columbus. Already 1000 supporters have booked their tickets to cheer on TFC in their kickoff to the new season in Ohio. The first home game of the 2008 season is slated for Saturday April 19 against Real Salt Lake with a 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff. That contest begins a stretch of five home games with the club not returning to the road until Saturday May 24 when they travel to D.C.

Toronto FC will make their prime time debut on ESPN when they host the New York Red Bulls on Thursday May 1 in a 7 p.m. ET start. In their final meeting of the season in 2007, Toronto upset New York 2-1 in front of another ESPN audience to snap their 12 game winless streak. That game was a highly physical contest and featured a sending off for each side.

Saturday May 31 will be an eagerly anticipated matchup when the Los Angeles Galaxy makes their second ever appearance at BMO Field, with new coach Ruud Guillit on the bench. In August of last year, international soccer star David Beckham did not play due to injury but still created quite the buzz by taking a seat on the bench.

The league's newest team, the San Jose Earthquakes will host Toronto on Saturday July 19 while TFC will close out their regular season in San Jose on October 25.

The 2008 season will conclude on Sunday, November 23 with MLS Cup 2008, live on ABC and Telefutura from The Home Depot Center in Carson, California at 3:30 p.m. ET. The MLS Cup Playoffs broadcast schedule will be announced at a later date. For a full MLS schedule please log on to www.MLSnet.com.

Please note that single match tickets for Toronto FC home games will not be available until early April. Details will be posted at www.torontofc.ca as they are confirmed.
