Toronto FC acquire Tyrone Marshall from L.A. Galaxy

Toronto FC announced on Wednesday that they have traded forward Edson Buddle to the Los Angeles Galaxy in exchange for defender Tyrone Marshall.

Buddle, 26, played in 10 games with Toronto this season, starting 5, and logging 481 minutes with 2 assists.

He was acquired from the New York Red Bulls on November 22, 2006 in a deal that sent midfielder Tim Regan to New York after he was picked up by Toronto FC in the MLS Expansion draft.

Marshall, 32, joins Toronto playing in his 10th MLS season. He began his MLS career with the Colorado Rapids on July 11, 1998 after being drafted 11th overall in the 1998 MLS College Draft. He made only one appearance before being traded to the Miami Fusion. 2001 was his final year with the Fusion, finishing with 9 goals, and 9 assists in 4 seasons before joining the L.A. Galaxy.

"He's a quality experienced, international defender", said Head Coach Mo Johnston. "He's played over 200 times in the this league, couple of times he's been an MVP with LA, an All Star, and he has the experience within this league that we were looking for. Edson's a quality guy, I talked to him last night, he's sad to go, and we're sad to see him go, but some time there's a price to be paid. Our team is starting to take shape, and obviously we've added a defender and that frees up Brennan to play on the left hand side and gives us lots of cover."

The graduate of Florida International University was named Defensive Player of the Year in both 2004 and 2005 with the Galaxy, and reached the 200 career games played milestone in his final game of the 2006 season. Of those 200 matches, 117 of them have been as a member of the west coast club, giving him the honour of being one their longest serving players.

So far this season, Marshall has made 8 starting appearances for the Galaxy, scoring 1 goal and logging 719 minutes.

Marshall, has also been a fixture on the Jamaican national team, making his debut with the Reggae Boyz in May of 2000, and held down a permanent spot on their starting XI during qualifying for the 2006 FIFA World Cup. He has appeared in 59 games for Jamaica.

Marshall will not be eligible to play in Toronto's game Sunday versus FC Dallas after receiving a red card last Saturday in a game against Dallas.
