Toronto FC 2, RSL 1 -- quote sheet

TORONTO FC 2, REAL SALT LAKE 1

REAL SALT LAKE HEAD COACH JASON KREIS

Thoughts on the match:
"I am extremely disappointed. We had a fantastic crowd out there tonight and I felt the boys were ready for it. I thought we did the right things during the week and everybody looked sharp, so I was expecting a whole different game tonight."

On the cause of the loss:
"We came out all right and created some good chances, but we didn't take it to them. I just don't think the mentality was right tonight. I felt that we just weren't lively enough. We lacked passion, we just didn't go after them, and that's more disappointing than anything else."

On RSL's close calls around the goal:
"We got enough chances, just clear-cut scoring chances that aren't being scored. It's always easy for me to come in here at the end of a game when a defender makes a mistake; it's easy to point a finger at them. But we need to point the finger at the guys who don't take their chances as well, especially clear-cut chances. You have to believe that when the focus is put in the right spot and every guy is concentrating enough, they'll finish those chances."

REAL SALT LAKE MIDFIELDER CAREY TALLEY

On the match:
"We had a lot of clear-cut chances we could have scored on. One simple mistake, two simple mistakes can kill a team, and that's what happened tonight. It's just got to be better on both ends of the ball."

REAL SALT LAKE MIDFIELDER ANDY WILLIAMS

Thoughts on the match:
"We played well. We put in 90 minutes of hard work. Being at home, we need to be on the throttle all night. I think we kind of eased up a little at the end. There are no excuses, it is the 4th of July and we should win at home."

REAL SALT LAKE FORWARD ALECKO ESKANDARIAN

Thoughts on the result:
"I thought we played well, but it is the same old story with our mistakes. I do not think they beat us; we beat ourselves. It's another heart breaking loss. We had so many chances -- a ball hit the post and the crossbar. At the end of the night we gave up three points. We have to stop making stupid mistakes and have some bounces go our way.

On the close chances for RSL:
"I should have put one or two more in, and Jamie [Watson] was really unlucky tonight. He did everything right. They punished us for our mistakes, but we did not punish them for theirs."

TORONTO FC HEAD COACH MO JOHNSTON

Overall thoughts on the match:
"I don't think the fans could have been pleased with what they saw; I felt [RSL] were over aggressive, in a lot of ways. We came here to play soccer and I don't think there was much soccer played. I'm disappointed in that part; we're a good soccer team and the tactics that you saw tonight weren't acceptable.

On getting the road result:
"It's a very good three points for us. We have a lot of back depth coming off our bench, then we'll get Marvell Wynne back for Saturday and hopefully Greg Sutton. Things are looking positive."

On the play of goalkeeper Sam Reynolds:
"The kid's been magnificent. I feel he's come in and played great for us. He's a bubbly character and we love having him around. I feel sorry now that he'll probably be out for the next maybe 6-8 weeks. I don't know what happened on the play."

On the play of midfielder Collin Samuel:
"Yeah, it's his second game. I know what Collin can do, I've seen him often enough. He's a striker - you see his movement to the goal. He drew that PK, which I felt was a red card; I feel that's the last man."

On the addition of forward Jeff Cunningham:
"He's been great. He already has three goals for us and could possibly have seven or eight. He creates goals; you guys have seen him often enough. We love having him here because he's a major threat all the time.

On the Cunningham injury and substitution:
"He pulled up and pulled his groin so he needed to come off. Did it work in our favor? Probably. We threw in [Andy] Welsh with (Collin Samuel) up front. I felt our guys battled well and played well in the second half. First half it was hard to play. All together three points, I'll take it any day."

TORONTO FC FORWARD JEFF CUNNINGHAM

On his first half goal:
"Last week, the first two games, I beat the entire team. Goalkeeper and I alone, shank it, miss it left and right. So this goal, I'll take it."

Thoughts on his time with Toronto thus far:
"A lot of talented players. The coach is still putting his group together, he is still making moves. Each week you have to come and show him you deserve to be on the pitch and I have been given the opportunity so far and hopefully I can continue to score and stay in the team. He expects a lot from us and I guarantee we are going to continue to improve and he'll continue to bring in players.

"In other words, I'm saying I don't feel very settled, that's what I'm trying to say. But I'll tell you what, the thing is he's honest. He is going to ask for an honest effort, and if you're not able to do it he'll find someone else who can. There is no BS with him and I respect that."

On his former Real Salt Lake squad:
"I wish the boys and the organization the best. I think Jason [Kreis] is doing a great job, the young boys are getting the opportunity and he is going to build a team how he wants it. I think he is going to do a good job. I respect him as a player and, as a coach, you know that the determination that he had as a player will drive him to be a good coach."

On playing alongside Danny Dichio:
"I think that guy gives me two more years on my career, because he takes so much abuse. He holds the ball up and draws defenders to himself, and it allows me to get goals like that. I am able to run at defenders, which I feel is my strength. I have always heard of players that make others better around them and I see that in him, and that is something I appreciate and am aiming to do more of, helping the other guys around me. He makes others around him better."

TORONTO FC MIDFIELDER COLLIN SAMUEL

On scoring a goal in just his second game with Toronto FC:
"I think it was coming. I'm just happy to get it on the road. I was just really, really happy about it."

On the style of play in MLS compared to Europe:
"It's different playing in Europe than coming here and playing. The climate is much cooler than here. My first game was really difficult, but I'm getting there. I just need to take one game at a time."
