Top pick Myers called to U-23 Camp

Kansas City Wizards midfielder and No. 1 overall selection in the 2008 MLS SuperDraft Chance Myers has been called to camp by United States U-23 coach Peter Nowak. Myers recently wrapped up the first U-23 camp of 2008 and is one of 13 players to attend both sessions.

The week-long camp will be Nowak's final chance to train and evaluate players before selecting the team that will compete in the CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Tournament from March 11-23, 2008, in Los Angeles, Tampa and Nashville. The U.S. will play their three games of the group stage in Tampa against Cuba on March 11, Panama on March 13 and Honduras on March 15. The eight-team tournament will send its two finalists to the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

Myers completed his sophomore season at UCLA in 2007 before signing with Major League Soccer as part of the Generation adidas program. Generation adidas players have their contracts paid outside the regular MLS salary cap structure and do not count toward the 18-man senior roster. Players signed through the program also receive grants to continue their schooling while training and playing with an MLS club. Both Myers and midfielder Roger Espinoza, Kansas City's other 1st round selection, are Generation adidas players.
