Tigres confirms roster to face FC Dallas in Rio Grande Plate

FRISCO, Texas - Mexican First Division Club Tigres UANL today confirmed the roster that will travel to Frisco to face FC Dallas on Wednesday, July 19 in the first leg of the Rio Grande Plate (7:30 p.m. CT).


Tigres head coach Jose Luis Trejo will bring a 23-man squad that includes Mexican World Cup defender Mario Mendez, Argentine midfielder Walter Gaitan, Chilean forward Sebastian 'Chamagol' Gonzalez, and Mexican international Jaime Lozano and Omar Briceño, among other stars. Mendez recently played in all four of Mexico's games at the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany, contributing two assists from his defensive position.


Tigres will arrive at the Dallas Fort-Worth Airport on Tuesday, July 18 at 6:00 p.m. CT. Following the Wednesday game, the club will train at Pizza Hut Park on Thursday and Friday before departing. Tigres will be staying at the Hilton Lincoln Center in Dallas.


On February 28, 2005, FC Dallas and Tigres announced a unique multi-year partnership which will feature among other elements, a home-and-away series for the inaugural Rio Grande Plate. The winner of the aggregate-goal series, which will be played on July 19 at Pizza Hut Park with the return leg on July 26 at Estadio Universitario in Monterrey, will win the Rio Grande Plate. The teams will also combine to further develop each club's youth academies, as well as work on the exchange of players, business practices, and community outreach programs.
