TFC transfer Andy Welsh to Blackpool

Toronto FC announced Thursday that they have sent midfielder Andy Welsh to English Championship club Blackpool on a free transfer.

Welsh, 24, joined Toronto FC just prior to the 2007 season, coming over from English Premiership club Sunderland.

"We found a way of getting him back over to England, and it worked out for both camps," said Head Coach Mo Johnston, "he's happy and we're happy. It's always sad to see a younger kid leave."

Welsh, began his professional career with Stockport County whom he signed with in 2001 and went on to make 74 appearances with the club in 3 years.

In November of 2004, he moved to Sunderland - and made his debut with the team on January 8, 2005 scoring a goal in their 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace. That season he made 8 appearances.

Welsh was loaned twice to Leicester City once in March of 2006, the second in October of last year.

The Manchester City born midfielder appeared in 20 matches with Toronto FC making 16 starts, contributing one goal and three assists in 1335 minutes played.
