TFC sign Canadian midfielder Rosenlund

Toronto FC announced Friday, that they have signed Canadian midfielder Tyler Rosenlund to a senior developmental contract. As per team and league policies, no details of the contract were released.

Rosenlund, 21, completed in a trial with Toronto FC while in Bradenton Florida earlier in the preseason, and most recently was part of the Canadian U-23 squad that just finished competing in CONCACAF's 2008 Olympic Qualifying tournament.</p>

"He's done well, which is why we offered him a senior developmental contract," said manager Mo Johnston. "If he makes some progress, which we're hoping he does, there's always an opportunity there to make the 18 man roster."</p>

Rosenlund, a native of Port Coquitlam B.C., participated in trials for two lower division teams in Sweden last season, eventually signing a contract with Atvidaberg of the Swedish 2nd Division.</p>

He attended the University of California, Santa Barbara in which he was a member of the Gaucho's beginning in 2004. In his first season as a freshman he was named an All-American and received Second Team All-Big West honours. He led all Big West freshman with five assists that season, tying for eighth conference overall. That year the team reached the 2004 Division I Men's College Cup. In 2005, he was named to the Missouri Athletic club Hermann Trophy Watch List, and in 2006 he recorded an assist when UCSB won a National Championship when they defeated the UCLA Bruins.

On the International front, Rosenlund has represented Canada at all levels, which includes U-17, U-20 and U-23 teams. The midfielder was part of the squad that went to the FIFA World Youth Championships in the Netherlands in 2005. Earlier this year, he made his first appearance with the senior team in a friendly against Martinique on January 30 coming on as a substitute in the 72nd minute.</p>

Rosenlund will return to Toronto with Canadian teammates Andrea Lombardo and Tyler Hemming after their 3rd place game against Guatemala on Sunday night in Nashville to wrap up the CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying tournament.</p>
