TFC Involved in Trade with Earthquakes

Toronto FC announced Thursday that they have acquired a first round 2009 MLS SuperDraft pick and allocation money from the San Jose Earthquakes in exchange for midfielder Ronnie O'Brien.

O'Brien joined Toronto FC on November 17, 2007 following an Expansion Draft trade that sent newly acquired midfielder Adrian Serioux and a second round pick in the 2007 MLS SuperDraft to FC Dallas.

"You're always reluctant to give up a player of Ronnie O'Brien's caliber, but for us to acquire a first round pick as well as free up cap space that will enable us to address our club's biggest quality need - more quality depth - which makes this a good trade for Toronto FC," said Manager Mo Johnston.

O'Brien played 13 games for Toronto FC and totaled 4 assists in 1139 minutes last season.
