TFC equipment drive a success

TFC volunteers filled 99 boxes full of jerseys, shorts, cleats, socks and balls in their equipment drive.

Saturday not only marked a big win for Toronto FC but it was also the team's first equipment drive. This drive was inspired by Meghan Anslow, a grade 8 student from Oakville and a huge Toronto FC fan. She approached us back in January with a proposal challenging us to host an equipment drive as part of a project she was doing for her grade 8 science class. Together we selected Second Kicks (www.secondkicks.com) as our benefitting organization and collected seven containers full of equipment from our fans. Meghan was also featured as the BMO Community Hero of the game at Saturday's game.

An intensive day of sorting the equipment on Sunday resulted in 99 boxes full of jerseys, shorts, cleats, socks and balls heading to Uganda, Kenya, Botswana and two hand deliveries to Nepal and Ghana. We have estimated that we outfitted 1700 players in full kits. As well around $500 was collected at the gates on game day to help with shipping costs.

We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who donated to the drive. Your contributions will make a difference to soccer players in other countries.
