A tale of two celebrations

Brad Davis

While Brad Davis and Franco Caraccio scored the Dynamo's goals Saturday night, the two celebrated in entirely different styles.

Making just his second start of the season after suffering through multiple pre-season injuries, Davis came close to scoring in the 25th minute. He bent a 25-yard free kick over the wall, but Galaxy goalkeeper Steve Cronin was able to tip it against the crossbar. Davis finally broke through in the 39th minute, finishing from close range on a headed feed from Franco Caraccio.

It was Davis' first goal from the run of play since June 21, 2007, when he netted a hat trick against Chivas USA, and the 26-year-old threw his head back and let out a scream in celebration.

"It was definitely a feeling of relief," Davis said after practice Monday. "I kept coming close and hitting the post, against Kansas City and on that free kick, and both times the goalie just got a hand to it. After all the work I put in to get back [healthy], it felt like a weight was off my shoulders."

Argentine forward Franco Caraccio celebrated quite differently after his tally, a 78th-minute rebound that gave the Dynamo a 2-1 lead. The 21-year-old Caraccio pulled off his jersey and ran to the sideline near his teammates before climbing onto the sideboards and waving his jersey at the visiting crowd.

"It was a spur of the moment thing. It's a good way to celebrate, so I thought, 'Do I have a yellow card?' I didn't, so I went for it," Caraccio said. "I thought it was going to be good enough to win, but we didn't end up winning, so I have a bit of a sour taste in my mouth."

The yellow card came automatically after Caraccio removed his jersey, and he said he will figure out a way to make future celebrations caution-free.

"For the future, it's important to plan something, especially if you're going to score goals, which I hope to," Caraccio said. "I want to help the team, of course, not hurt it by getting suspended, so I'll have to think of something else."

The Dynamo hope Caraccio, Davis and their teammates have plenty of reasons to come up with new goal celebrations on Saturday when Houston travels to take on Columbus at 6:30 p.m. CT. The game is available on TV on Channel 55 and Channel 43 and on radio on 790 The Sports Animal and La Ranchera 850.
