Statement from MLS Commissioner Don Garber regarding Colorado Rapids vs. Real Salt Lake game, Sept. 2

At the request of Real Salt Lake Investor/Operator Dave Checketts, the MLS Disciplinary Committee has reviewed all available video evidence of the post-game celebrations that took place after the game between Real Salt Lake and the Colorado Rapids at Rice-Eccles Stadium on Sept. 2, 2006. The Committee found no evidence of any obscene behavior by any Colorado Rapids player or any actions that require disciplinary penalties.

There were, however, certain celebratory acts that I find unprofessional and inappropriate. I will be addressing these acts with the Colorado Rapids. In addition, the MLS Operations Department will address security at Rice-Eccles Stadium to prevent a recurrence of the actions of a small group of Real Salt Lake fans who threw objects onto the field during and after the game.
