Sounders drill Rapids in Open Cup

The Seattle Sounders jumped all over the visiting Colorado Rapids on Tuesday, running away from their MLS visitors 5-0 in a quarterfinal Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup match at Qwest Field.

By the time the Sounders' Sebastian Le Toux snuck a right-footed shot past embattled Rapids keeper Zach Thornton in the 64th minute, Colorado was playing a man down after an ejection to Facundo Erpen and had suffered an own goal.

The win was the second straight over a Major League Soccer club for Seattle, one of five USL teams to make it to the quarterfinal round. In their previous Open Cup game, the Sounders defeated Chivas USA 3-1.

The Sounders now advance and will host another MLS club, FC Dallas, who took out the Charleston Battery in overtime 2-1.
